AHA & BHA For Skin Care

Keeping the skin beautiful and healthy is the most important thing in terms of skin care. But in this busy life, none of us has the time to look after the health of the skin. So in this busy life, you can take out a little time for skin care and use AHA and BHA products, which will help keep our skin healthy, beautiful, and soft.

Difference Between AHA And BHA In Skin Care Products

AHA and BHA are acidic compounds that work to exfoliate dead skin and promote new skin cell growth. Both are useful for reducing wrinkles and increasing collagen production. Both AHA and BHA work on the skin’s surface until they penetrate the skin tissue.

Both have benefits for facial skin, but there are actually many differences between these two compounds. The differences between AHA and BHA are as follows:

AHA

AHA (Alpha Hydroxy Acid) is more recommended for sun-damaged skin and dry skin. AHAs contain moisturizers that work to block the water supply to the skin, leaving it looking more hydrated. Examples of AHA compounds are glycolic and lactic acids.

BHA

Moisturizers do not contain BHA (beta hydroxy acid) or salicylic acid. Therefore, face care products containing BHA are recommended for treating oily skin problems as they dry out.

In addition, BHA also contains anti-inflammatory and antibacterial agents that are effective for sensitive, acne-prone, and blackhead-prone skin.

How to use AHA and BHA

After learning the difference between AHAs and BHAs, are you excited about learning how to use both? Below are guidelines on how to use AHA and BHA products:

  • AHAs and BHAs are often found under other names. Other forms of AHA are usually glycolic acid, lactic acid, malic acid, mandelic acid, and citric acid. Salicylic acids are BHA derivatives.
  • Some people argue that BHA and AHA together will provide better results but are not really necessary. If you want to use BHA and AHA together, they should be done at different times, i.e., AHA during the day and BHA at night.
  • Both AHA and BHA will be effective after washing your face and using toner if your face is clear. Then wait for about 3–5 minutes, or until the peeling is maximally dry on your skin.
AHA and BHA can be used on the area near the eyes but not on the eyelids or directly under the eyes.
  • After the AHA or BHA is absorbed by the facial skin, other cosmetic products such as moisturizers, serums, eye creams, sunscreens, or foundations can be used.
  • If you want to use resurfacing, retinoids, or other topical products such as topical prescription products, use BHA or AHA first.
